Dogs???
After reading all the posts about having trouble finding game animals. I am curious if anyone out there uses dogs to retrieve their animals?
Here in the state of Oregon the regulations read " It is prohibited to use dogs to hunt any game animal except western gray squirrel" .
I have an australian sheppard female that is a fantastic tracker, she found her first deer at 1 year old and to date she has found 11 deer and 9 elk counting this year. I have friends that will call if they have a tracking job that doesnt pan out.
As a side note only 1 deer and 1 elk were mine the rest were for friends.
If i have to use the dog I never carry a weapon so I cant be accused of actually hunting. I know this might be stretching the laws a bit but i figure that any animal I put an arrow into deserves any and all attempts to recover them.
So i' m curious do you use dogs or would you if the chance presented itself?

RE: Dogs???
I have never had to use a dog (knock on wood), but I have one I am sure would track one down if given the opportunity. If you read the " What to do after the shot" thread they do mention using dogs, there is one guy who is quite famous in his area for his dogs.

You can use dogs to find game in Texas as long as it is on a leash. I have used one once and it help me find the deer. I called the local Game Warden and he suggested I use a dog. I didn' t know you could until he told me.

In some of our Georgia hunting magazines they publish the names and numbers of trackers and the counties they service. Haven' t had to use one yet but nice to know it would be easy to contact one. SUggest it to your local or state hunting magazine.
