Why mush it be big to Mount it?
I just got my deer back, mounted and I think it looks good. But here is the thing. Why do animals have to have big horns to mount them? Ok my buddy got this 100 class 4 + 4 mounted and I thing it is the coolest thing. It is not hugh but was scouted with a herd of deer and taken with his bow. Out of the tree stand he picked for him-self. He did the work and he got the deer and I dont care if it was a spike. I think you should mount them for the simple facted that you put the time in and had a great hunt. I got mine deer mounted. But when I look at the deer I dont see its horn size, I see me and my two hunting buddies scounting, talking, planning, and hunting this deer. Now I am not saying that it is wrong to mount big deer, but why not the little ones too?

I put the first four bucks I shot on the wall because I was just getting into taxidermy. My work was far from good at the time - but can't tell you how many appreciated them just the same. One was a spike with a broken stub for one side! Still looked good. Story to go! If you can afford it why not. Saves that story and brings it back. I don't do my own work anymore but if I got one that was special in any way - I'd get it mounted and wouldn't think twice. Got a little 8pt wt that means more to me on the wall than my biggest buck. Just another way of perserving the story...

It dont have to be.I seen little does mounted. For me I aint going to have anymore mounted.I have one at the taxi from 2000,but that was the first I had done for years and will be the last.Just dont have room and it is getting to expensive. They all end up in one of my storage sheds and I dont see them for yeas.I'm just estimating but probably have around 100 racks and 30 mounts somewhere packed away. Heck I have a 216 score muley shoulder mount somewhere in that mess. And I cant even see that from the pile.

It could be a trophy in your eyes, don't let others decide for you.
Too much anymore is put on how big a rack the buck has.It is taking away from people going out and hunting for the enjoyment of it.

On the properties that I hunt our management goals state that if you shoot it,you pay to get it mounted. That being said, you have to ask yourself if you really want to stare at a small buck the rest of your life as well as spend over 4 bones at the taxidermist. Now, I've taken some nice bucks so I don't care to put a buck smaller than the ones I've already taken.
Now whenever confronted by a non-hunter about my wall (its usually the wifes friends) about how could I kill something so "pretty" I respond by saying,..... Please do not misunderstand the reasons for the deer hanging on my wall.Thay are not there to brag about my marksmanship or to soothe my ego.Instead they serve as a lasting tribute to one of the greatest big game animals in the world...... the magnificent whitetail deer.
To see a few nice "cornfed" bucks, go to www.bowkill.50megs.com and go to Photo3 Page

the size of the trophy is in the eye of the hunter.
don't let your friends be the one to tell you what you should mount.
befor I had to retired from taxidermery I mounted a lot of spikes and small four points.even a few doe.
they are all trophies to the owner.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Hey it dont have to be big to get it mounted. My first "Trophy" I got mounted was a spike! Only because it was my first deer. Its a trophy to me though<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
