Why mush it be big to Mount it?

Il-cornfed, I have a slightly different relationship when it comes to my wifes friends. One comment like that, and they leave for the last time. By this time, my wife knows to ask her friends feelings on the subject before they get in the house.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Why mush it be big to Mount it?
I have mounted 4 deer to date. Each one holds a place in my memory an always will. But each one has also been bigger than the last. I was lucky enough in my early years of hunting to take a few bucks. All were small spikes, forks, sixs, and eights. My first head mount had to be at least a two and a half year old deer in my mind. I was able to finally meet my goal after 10 years of hunting very hard, which amounted to a 100 inch eight point. Every year since then I've been able to take a slightly bigger deer. Each of which has been mounted, and all of which reside on my living room wall. I will continue to do this until I get that one buck that I just can't top, then my goal will switch to helping others, such as my son who is only 8 months old, do the same. The way I see it, I have no need to compete with other hunters when I can compete with myself. My goals are getting quit high and I'm proud of that because I've spent a lot of time achieving that. Hence, I have reminders and memories every day on my living room wall that show me, an no one else, that I have, and also maybe someday will, achieve my goals.

I'm having the buck I shot this year mounted. He scores about 110 and the main beam is missing in front of the G-2, so he's only an eight point. I worked hard for him and feel he's big enough to mount.

If we all stop and remember the first deer that we got size was not what mattered!!! Please remember when someone shows you their deer mount stop and think how excited you were at that place and time and enjoy the moment with them!!!!!

After chasing elk for numerous years I took my first bull this year-a 5X3. A rag horn by most standards but it is a true trophy to me and I am anxiously waiting to get it back. I can look at the picture on my wall right now and recall every aspect of calling him in, the shot, and the end of the blood trail leading to a magnificient animal which I had put untold hours into taking. I also took a P&Y whitetail last year which I mounted the antlers from but did not spend the money for a head and shoulder mount. To me the elk was a harder earned trophy even though it won't come close to any record book.

If I got every buck mounted that I shot....I'D BE BROKE! It isn't that I don't want to preserve the hunt, or anything of that nature. I can't afford $400 every year just on mounts....I spend way too much on hunting to start with.
