Mathews a little too loud
My Mathews Q2 xl seems to be shooting a bit too loud. It seems to have gotten louder when I put a new winners choise string on. I shoot 70 lbs and a 400 grain arrows.
So far I' ve put on 2 sets of the new sims stealth leaches (,2 on the string 2 on the cables), limb savers, doinker staiblizer, and I shoot no quiver.
I oriented my cam, which was out by quite a bit, this tightened my groups up but didn' t help the noise.
I may be being a bit anal but I' ve heard other Q2s shot and they were quieter.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Jim

RE: Mathews a little too loud
JimBow,
This is a LONG shot, but it happened to my Q2 a couple of years ago. All of the sudden it was making lots of noise. After very close inspection I found that one of the plastic string bushings on the top limb had cracked. It was causing all kinds of racket. It was a very easy fix.
I would take it to your local bow shop and have them look it over.
Good Luck

WOW, I shoot a 495 grain carbon arrow @ 55 lbs. Maybe a little heavier arrow might help? I know I shoot heavy arrows, but 400 grains at 70 pounds seems kind of light. Unless they' re really short.[&:] I' m probably wrong...cause my wife says I am most of the time.[:' (]

I havn' t had that problem with my q2 and I' m shooting 390 grain gold tips and my q2 is cranked down to a half round off the bottom, I don' t know what poundage that is but should be close to 70. Just thought of something, last year I cranked the limbs all the way down and it got loud and picked up some vibration. I backed off a 1/2 round and fixed the problem. Are you cranked all the way down?

Jim.
If it is making TWANG sound it is the new string. Every WC string I have had has been slightly noisier not knocking WC they make a good string.
I think it has something to do with the way they pre stretch the string.
Instead of leeches try some cats whiskers.

Just curious....Did you look over all the allen heads to make sure they were all tight? Maybe your cable guard is loose and vibrating when you shoot. Also, The simms cable guard dampners are very good at soaking up extra vibrations. Give them a try.

Thanks guys, I' ll have to check the allen bolts they should be all the way down. As for arrow weight the actuall weight is closer to 420gr I haven' t weighed them in a while . They are Gametracker CX300 hunters. 29.5 inches with 100 grain tips and 3 4" feathers. (I shoot a 30 inch draw)
I think it' s a combo of light arrows WC string and heavy draw weight. I may switch to wiskers if they work better.
Not to stir up a big debate but wiskers work better than leaches?? I' d love to see some actuall data on this, but for now I' ll trust the opinions of others.
I' ll also give cable guard sliencers a shot as long as they don' t mess with my Muzzy Zero effect.
Thanks a bunch Jim
