RE: Bow Hunting Elk in Meeker, CO
I just got back from a trip that was good on paper, good for me, but not nessasarily good for everyone that went. But that' s hunting.
We stayed at a place that provided cabin, private land, semi-guided, etc. There are showers, power, beds, cooking facilities, etc. We went during muzzeloder season but all of us were bowhunting. I would not do it with 8 guys again. 6 would be max.
I got close to 3 bulls on three different days. got a shot, didn' t bag one.
Out of the 8 guys that went 4 guys got shooting, That' s great odds!!!
The problem was that the other 4 guys didn' t see much at all.
Was it worth the money??? Sure if you were one of the shooters. Maybe not if you were one of the guys that didn' t see elk.
Here is the web site. Barry, the owner, is not a big bow hunter but he knows where the elk bed and where they travel. Not that it was hard for me to figure out in a few days but it was worth something. He allows 4 wheelers to get around. some of the best basins are 4 - 5 miles from your camp on ranch roads. There is BLM land beyond his land and If I were to do it again I would take a tent and spike camp way back beyond his land. We shot two of our elk in the BLM.
