Questions on rattling and scents
I live in MN and was wondering what some of the signs are, or what date range do most of you start rattling? Also I have a rattling bag and was wondering how do you guys you it? Also what kind of scents do you use during what part of the hunt. And lastly grunting. I always think when I am grunting that I do it to much or not enough, to loud wrong sound and something any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks....
Thanks....

Grunting, now that' s my speciality and I' ve had tremendous success with it. Yes, you can do it to much....and mostly, too loud at times. I' ve called in deer again, the first day through the last day but prerut being the optimal time. Once the rut is in full bore, there are plenty of does to go around and unless you catch a buck between does, he' s not interested in another buck.
Grunt softly, and not to often. I' m not a big fan of blind calling but if a deer passes close enough and you don' t know it and grunt, you could very well pull him in...but if your obnoxious with the call your more likely spooking your deer.
Use this ananolgy......you wouldn' t want to walk into a crowded bar and yell fire....keep it soft and sutle and only grunt occassionally for a few times. Good luck and I hope this helps a little.
