Sighting in a bow?
I have three pins that I' m trying to site in (20 , 30, 40 yard). My problem is that the maximum amount of yardage I have to shoot in my yard is 30 yards. If I was to shoot a 40 yard pin at the center of a target at 30 yards, how far from the center will the arrow be. Also, is there a rule of thumb for the distance an arrow will rise or fall considering that you are shooting with just one pin, in 10 yard increments?

I wouldn' t try to guesstimate you 40 yrd at 30. The tagectory of an arrow sharply drops after 30 yards. The drop between 30 and 35 yards is often more than the drop between 10 and 30 yards. On my bow I think the drop is around 6 inches when shooting at a 40 yrd target with my 30 yard pin. It' s been a while since I measured this. But that' s my bow. My brothers bow has almost twice the drop. He shoots a slower bow with heaver arrows than I do.
Your best bet is to shoot it at 40 and get the piece of mind that your on.
I would call your local archery shop If they don' t have a range I' d bet they know where one is.

Forget 40 unless you practice at 40. Aim to get really good at 30yds. Try this - shoot with the wrong foot positions, twist around, close your eyes for awhile after the draw, count to 100, sit in a chair and shot from the bad side, move the bow around in circles and then stop and shot. All that stuff is better than a 40 yd pin if you can' t practice at it. Better that you practice 30 with ants on your arm and gnats in eyes and hit it every time than to have pin you don' t practice with. I practice shooting from the wrong leading foot every time I go out, and do the eye closed stuff too. But I do practice 40 more than the others. Makes 20 a breeeze. However next year a house will be built I will be luckly to practice at all. No more 40yds.

I have three pins but only use two. My green pin is for 0 to 20 yards out and the red is for my 25-30 yard shot. To be quite honest and not bragging, I won' t consider anything over 25 yards as I think 30 yards is a bit too far for an accurate and good shot...based upon my skills, etc. I can nail a 4" circle with dead accuracy up to about 25 yards. I' m talking 10 out of 10 shots hitting this circle. When I have tried 30-35 yard shots during practice sessions, my accuracy drops off a bit. I' m sure I could become more confident with more practice, but to be honest most of the areas I hunt do not allow for shots much farther than 25 yards...so I' m happy with 25 yards and in.
