I prefer not to ground hunt but sometimes you just have to. When they come in it can make for some great close encounters...good luck.

Congratulations, Matt. You' ve taken your first steps into a wider world.

I' ve religiously avoided treestands ever since my first experience with one. Always have been and always will be a ground hunter.

Arthur I am with you, I do not like tree stands unless it is one I built myself, I have hunted more from the ground than anywhere else. The thrill of fooling a deer on its own level is a real rush that no one can appreciate until they have done it.

Matt you have what in my book as a ground hunter is the perfect spot, keep us posted on how things go.

I have one area with heavy cover but the trees are not big enough to hang a stand so I' m going to try the ground blind using an Ameristep Doghouse. Kinda looking forward to the change from the treestand route.

got a new stand area this year that will have to be hunted from the ground. I love my tree stands, but sometimes you got to get " down and dirty"

Matt,

After picking up a ground blind last year I somewhat rediscovered my love for ground hunting. Though I do not think it is as effective, for me, as treestand hunting I definitley think it is necessary for certain scenarios....yours in particular.

Though not on the opener I too will be hunting from the ground on various occasions when terrain and the weather dictate.

Matt,

Weren' t you wearing a NaturalGear 3-D suit in your buck pic last year? Seems like a good camo if your hunting in cedars.
