Default Sick Deer Pics

I called the state biologist for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. They said it might be a couple days before they called back. I got it scaned today at work. You guys tell me what you think.

My question is this....all the deer are coming to something that you cut out of the pic, I assume a bait, mineral, watering site...???????

Trying to get a handle on what' s going on...

Tell you what.... I was in Cook Forest, PA last week and saw at least 3 doe that looked like this. Got video of the one.. maybe i' ll snatch the pic off the video camera and post it here in a couple days.

What does cronic wasting do to a deer? I' m not sure i' m familiar with how it affects the animal. Maybe you guys from wisconsin can help me out with this question...

Yup, Rob is correct, baiting can cause some serious health issues.

These deer do look a bit off their food, but some of it is due to the angles. When a deer turns away like that the ribs on the off side always stick out more. I think she' s just in the summertime blues stage. She appears alert and physically mobile. All of the deer are a little scrawny, but I' ve seen real sick deer and these don' t look like it.... just not real healthy.

CWD does look quite similar to this. But there are other things that can make a deer sick like that as well. I' ve seen old bucks that were bone thin like that but they usually have been around so long their teeth are all worn down and it' s truly old age. This doesn' t look like that since it looks like she might be the mother of those two yearlings. Maybe I have that wrong. What I have on the ground was salt and corn. I spread the the salt and some calcium on some choped up ground like one of the people on here had reccomended in a web site. Did it about 3 days before these pics were taken. The corn was about 1/4 of a bag of " deer corn" from walmart that I bought last year. hardly prime stuff but I figured it wasn' t doing any good in the garage. That was also spread out at the same time. I wanted to attract them to the mineral lick and also to the camera. I took a doe out there last year. she was small but healthy looking. This area is a rural neighborhood. it' s only 20 yds from my garage. All the houses in this area have at least 1 acre lots. some have 10+. This is a 30 acres wooded area with lots of similar areas around, plus several hundred acres of unharvested forest less than a mile away. It is abundant with deer and turkey. I know some people in the area feed the deer and they ravage everyones plants. We' ve had lots of rain. it' s green green green around here. so I don' t know what could make this deer look this way. I haven' t seen (or at least not close enough to notice) during the day. I' m still waiting on the state biologist or a game warden to call me to get a look at these pictures.
