Be Proud of your animal!

RE: Be Proud of your animal!
I just don' t like seeing young bucks or does shot just because it represented a kill -another # to the list, an oportunity to draw blood.
Great post PA!
I believe that any animal that means something to YOU, is considered a trophy. It makes no difference at all what others think. Post those pics and stories...many folks here love to read them, I know I do!

I love to eat venison and to me there isnt anything better than a very young doe.
I usually shoot 1 or 2 tender veals each season along with a couple of mature ones. The one I killed last year I just threw over my shoulder and carried it the half mile to my truck. I got some nasty comments from some of the other hunters at the check station but I didnt care. It was legal and VERY DELICIOUS. [:-]

Every deer I have taken in the past has been a trophy to me and always will be. I enjoyed eating a nice doe venison roast trophy last night, it is so much tastier than TAG pie![]
If you are not going to be proud of what you are about to release on, you have no business releasing!

First off, Mattcss, What do those goats taste like?
Second. I don' t give a rat' s ass about trophy bucks or trophy management or any of that crap. now don' t get me wrong, I' d love to take a nice big buck. But I' m not gonna let that scrumptious doe walk by if my freezer is empty. perhaps I' m doing something wrong, because I spent well over a hundred hours in the woods last year. Took one medium doe. (my only deer in the total 7 years of hunting I' ve done). I see the damned things all over the place laying in the ditch after cars take them out. I' ve even had to put one down this year after it got hit. We are dripping with doe around here and there is a pretty good supply of small bucks. But about the only big bucks I see are in the ditch or on the picture wall at the general store. I' ve let some small ones walk just because it didn' t feel right. But there is a reason you can take does.
And I have landed an opportunity to Bowhunt a small patch of private land that sits right next to a nice big farm. They asked me to thin it down a little because the deer are destroying their fruit trees. I' m gonna do my damndest. And I am sure I will have no shortage of people who are willing to take the meat if I am successful. I understand the concept of letting small bucks walk to build trophies but I think lots of people get lost in the whole pissin match of who killed the biggest deer. or the most deer or whatever. I' ve rambled enough.

I' m going to break line a little here, but hear me out. While I do agree that taking any deer with a bow is special, I don' t call every one a trophy to me. Some rank higher than others. I take does to fill the freezer, and for that I' m thankful and gracious to have a spot where it' s relatively easy to do so. In turn, I have other spots with less deer, and taking a doe there is really special to me. I have started holding out for a certain size buck(which in the grand scheme isn' t that big) but that does not lessen any of the smaller bucks I have already taken. If I shoot a good buck this year it is going to be really really special, but for me to call it a trophy, it needs to be big. So in short to sum up, if your shoot a deer it should either fall into being a special meaningful deer to you, or you should be thankful that it has given you a freezer of meat. I guess this is all a matter of definition, as to whether a deer has special meaning or a trophy, or whatever.

RE: Be Proud of your animal!
Hi
Are ladies welcome to pipe in on the subject.I have only been hunting about 5 years, three of those with a bow. It is the greatest way to hunt. My husband told me that to get near enough to any animal to take it with a bow makes it a trophy. I admit I would love to take the 14 point I saw within rifle range last year but I am dedicated to taking my deer with my bow. A doe or young buck also gives me great pride in my accomplishmnet of helping to fill the families freezer. So yeah I feel any animal taken with a bow is a trophy, some are just bigger trophies than the others.
The first deer I ever took was a young doe with a bow, my second year hunting.
