Default Max. hunting range

I shoot 40 yards when practicing, but when I' m hunting, I limit myself to shots 30 yds. and under. I find that by shooting the 40 when practicing, it makes the 30 yd. shots ' easier' for me. Anyone feel the same way? What do you consider your max. ethical shot distance?

I practice out to 80 yards because I sometimes shoot field archery and I have to be able to consistently hit center on targets at all distances out to 80 yards. For hunting, I stick to 30 and less. And conditions always play a big part in my maximum range.

I practice out to 40, but right now under hunting conditions I limit myself to 25 yards or less, however I may take it out to 30 this season with my new bow.

Up until this year my max. sure kill range was 20. Right now I am confident at 25, I have been practicing at 40+ so i hope to stretch it out to 30 by the time the season starts.

I practice out to 60 yards at my cabin, my home range is 28 yards. I like to keep my range for deer hunting at 28 yards. Elk out to 35.

I spend most of my practice sessions shooting at 40-50 yards. I have never shot a whitetail over 25 yards. I' m not saying I wouldn' t feel comfortable, it' s just I' ve never needed to.........I have, however, shot Mule Deer and Antelope upwards of 50 yards out west. I very seldom practice from the same location. I shoot one arrow from different locations and angles. I feel it gives me the best real life practice. I also practice shooting at small objects from different locations (skoal can, stirofoam cup, etc).

I' m like you Taz. I' ve been limiting myself to 25 yrds but depending on how I' m doing this fall, I might up it to 30 yrds. 25 just seems about " right" for me.

I practice out to 40. Hunting I prefer 25 and less. 30 is definetely max and even then, i let many walk cuz it didn' t feel right.

For 3D purposes I practice out to 60 yards.

For hunting, I' ll max my shots out to 40 yards. My longest is 42 yards, a perfect 10 ring double lunger and have never had to take shots over 25 yards otherwise.

For elk, I practiced out to 70 yards and wouldn' t have quams about shooting 50 yards....I shot my bull at 33 yards.
