never heard of those brands.... irish setters made here in mn and i know that companys good but didn' t know if i should get rockys which have been recommended i' lll have to check out the 2 you suggested thanx

Irish setter, hands down. I' ve owned 3 pair of Rocky' s over the years and finally smartened up and spent a few bucks on a good pair of Setter' s...no comparison. Irish Setter' s are far more durable and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more comfortable in my experience. I just always figured hunting boots were supposed to hurt my feet, that is until I tried something else!
Another drawback is that on every single pair of Rocky' s, the sole' s burnt out in a hurry, leaving you the option of either shelling out 50 bucks to have them re-done or just buying yet another pair. I was dumb enough to do the latter...2X

Irish Setter based on comfort, less fatigue(lighter), great tread pattern and cheaper. They both make a quality boot IMO, they both offer gortex booties, range of style and thinsulate. I own both Rocky and Irish Setter, so I consider it a fair comparison on my part. I just prefer a lighter boot, easier to get into and more comfortable.
Both danner and Meindl boots are top of the line but come at a pretty decent price as well. For the hiking, light wear I wear Soloman boots and they have been outstanding in every regard...but are not a cold weather boot by any means.

Well, I' ll tell you this. I probably won' t be buying another pair of Rocky' s. So, if it were a choice between the two pairs that you mentioned, I' d say Irish Setters.
I just cleaned and was putting some sno-seal on my Rocky Steel Toed 8" boots, when I noticed how the Gortex was put in them, and man I am disapointed. In on the tongue and side where the tongue is attached, the gortex is coming apart. When I looked at it, it looks like the gortex is glued and not sewn in. Now why would gortex be glued in, isn' t gortez suppose to breathe??? It is not sewn together to attach the gortex on the tongue and side. Right now, it is all exposed leather. When I look at my Danners, everything is sewn together. I guess that is part of the difference between a $120 pair of boots compared to $260. But I' d take the $260 any day cause I know they do what they are supposed to do and will last me for years.
