What yardage for broadhead practice??
I usually shoot at 30-50 yards for my broadhead practice and 9 out of 10 times I am in the 8 inch kill zone. Today I tried from 60, 70 and 80 yards and was quite surprised that I was still able to keep alot of arrows in the 8" kill zone. I should add that I have a LARGE backstop so if I miss I don' t have to hunt for my arrows.
I am NOT advocating shooting any game at this distance but it goes to show that fixed blade broadheads will fly every bit as accurate as field points if your bow is tuned well. These were Gold Tip Camo XTs' 55/75 (old style) with Phantom 4-blade broadheads (125gr) with 5" offset fletch.
What range does everyon else practice from??

A friend of mine is a very good shot and shoots alot of field and 3D. He practices at yardages from 10 to 100 yards. Nothing like a really long shot to show any mistakes in your form.

For PRACTICE, i shoot 10-35 yrds....i dont practice any further than that with my broadheads because i dont intend to take a shot at an animal further than that. I have taken shots out to 70 with my broadheads just to see how they would fly to the 3-d target but i wouldent call that practice because it was a one or two time thing.

Maximum of 30 yards with a 35 and 40 yard thrown in just to confirm that shafts are not riding right at the edge of good flight. 30-yard shot inside the timber is questionable.
Cannot justify shooting broadheads at a further yardage than I will shoot. Broadheads are notorious for going erratic when velocity drops off and wings of head start to steer the shaft. Don' t want to affect my " battle-sight" setting by trying to also adjust and dial in a " range-sight" setting.

Most of my broadhead practice is 40 yds. But I shoot many from 20 to 30 also.
If I shoot longer I use field points.
Though I do shoot BH' s at long yardages just to see

I understand the importance of practicing the long range shots (shooting past what you normally would on game), and it is very good to do so. But just don' t forget to practice those slam dunk shots from 5-15 yards also. Just a little free advice.
