opinions on short ata for hunting & 3-D?
Just wanted to know what kind of experiences you have had with them. Being left handed Ive pulled many back but havent really shot any. Currently Im using 38 ata with fingers for hunting. However Im open to using a release with a shorty. Im looking at bow tech stalker, tomkat, blackhawk and parker ezedraw33. Also the Pro 40 wheely and parker feather mag, what can I say,old habits die hard.(long ata)
Thanks for the help!

I' ve been using a 33" ATA bow for a couple years now, and within the next couple weeks, I' ll be purchasing an even shorter ATA bow. I' m debating over a few short Diamonds, and leaning toward the Stinger which is 28" ATA and 8 3/8 brace height. Your draw length should have a lot to do with how short you should go. I' m shooting 29" and am probably pushing the envelope with a 28" ATA, so I may step up to the Hornet which is 30" . If you' ve got a real long draw length, then the ATA you choose, should be correspondingly longer. These shorty bows are a real benefit for those with short draw lengths, and looking for more speed. Some of these can really blister an arrow.
For my type of hunting, which is typically out of a tree, in dense woods, with shots under 20 yards, there are some real advantages to a small, manuerable bow. I' ve found the forgiveness of these bows to be suprisingly high, consdering the short ATA. I' m not able to tell much difference in my shooting ability with these bows, than with the 38" bow I used 3 years ago. I think the advantages outweight any disadvantages in my situation.

I tend to agree with everything that Straightarrow posted. I think making the switch from fingers to a release is going to be a big change for you. I would not necessarily recommend going with a bow that has a great deal of axle to axle length difference from what you are currently shooting. Something in the 33-34 inch range would be about as short as I would recommend at this time for that very reason. That would still leave the Stalker and EZ Draw 33 in the short bow category as well Pro 40 and Feather mag in a longer axle to axle length.

I shoot a 30 1/2" bow, and have no problems with the ATA. It is a Martin Altitude (actually have two, one in target colors). I haven' t shot any other real short ATA bows, so I can' t say if it is just the Altitude or not, but the length hasn' t make much difference at all. I can shoot it as well as the 38 1/2" HCA I previously had. As far as for target, I don' t know. It shoots better than I can shoot it, but a longer bow (thinking over 40" ) would be more forgiving...but how much more is the $500 question.

I shoot a 29.5" ata. I like this bow better for the easy manuever. Also, my DL is 25" , so it fit me well. I have shot a 37" ata before. I prefer the shorter ata.
