Default Bow string?

I recently purchased a parker wildfire xp and after a few shots through it the string started coming apart around the peep so i took it to the local pro shop and the owner said he would make me a custom string and install everything including a new loop and peep for a total of $75.00 and I have seen alot of his strings on hunting and competition bows and he does really good work, but the problem I have is that in my owners manual it says that only parker strings should be used or it will void the warranty but I told him to do it anyway because he said that was dumbest thing he has heard. I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts are on custom bow strings? And the pro shop owner told me just to keep the old string and cable and if there is ever a problem with the bow that needs to be repaired under warranty he would just put them back on for me and they would never know the difference.

I also forgot to mention that he said that it looked like when they installed the peep at the factory that they split one of the strands on the string causing this to happen

Tell ya what. I've been shooting compounds for over 35 years. I was once a sales rep for a bow company. Been a staff shooter for 16 years now.

There is nothing special about Parker strings. Most all strings are made of various "fast flight" materials. And unless Parker has changed their ways their strings have never really impressed me. There bows, on the other hand, are pretty good---worthy of better strings.

My advice. You have a good bow shop with some common sense. If he makes good strings like you say then I'd say his price is fair, too. You have a keeper there.

kinda steep on the custom string price imo, unless i just get good deals. our local pro shop builds custom pre stretched strings for $39.99. that also includes the install and putting everything back on the string that you had on the old one.

Camocop,

That is a very reasonable price for a bow string with installtion. The bow shop near Tampa wanted to charge $105 for a Zebra string/cable install.

Zebra strings are a little steep in price, atleast the last time i checked. i didn't get my cables changed, just the string. how often should the cables be changed? mine have been on the bow for about 10 years. there is no evidence of wear on them and prior to this year, the bow hasn't been shot much.
