Default Alaskan Hunting???

Anybody ever done any hunting on Kodiak Island, or in Alaska? (I'm thinking of you KodiakArcher)

There is a decent chance I could be sent to Kodiak in mid-september for work. And I was thinking I could lump in a DIY bow hunt, or find an outfitter for a few days, or maybe meet up w/ someone from here. I have no clue about hunting up there, but since this just came up today I figured I'd ask around to see what my options are...

My first questions/thougths:
1. Is it too late to get a Non-res. tag?
2. Do you need to have a guide?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

i have only hunted kodiak once, far west area for deer ( 10-12 years ago) and afognak island once ( ? 30 years ago)
IF YOU HUNT DEER , NO GUIDE
LIC $85 deer tag $150 each. think limit is 3. from last years regs
brown bear- need guide they may have tags available $$$$$$$
some hunting from road system only be 1 bag limit there
goat from road separate late fall archery season....guide required registration hunt have to register 5-6 weeks before hunt
drawing hunts are all too late to apply
caribou ( reindeer, set free ) ( no guide) was no bag limit and no closed season no guide required think that has changed with this years regs....can't find my copy these are on far west part of island so air charter fees are high.
there is some great sea duck hunting on kodiak chance to shoot some different species.

hope this helps

guide is only needed for griz, mtn. goat, and sheep. All others don't require a guide for non-res.

I would like to go there and hunt anything for the experience...
I have freinds that live there...they told me if I came,
I would not want to leave...knowing me I probably wouldn't

Thanks for the info guys, it looks like if I go I might try to do a DIYcaribou hunt, they just opened it for this coming year. I wont be able to use a guide, because the my trip dates are a moving target, anywhere from early aug to mid sept... Once I know when the trip is scheduled I'll try to work something out, I'd hate to have free plane tix to kodiak and not get to hunt! [8D]
