Bow sight distance
Hey guys, What distances do you guys have your pins set on for deer hunting. I am getting a bear showdown with a 3 pin sight and am trying to determine what distances I want it sighted in for. Thanks

RE: Bow sight distance
My pins are 25,40,60,80. The 60 and 80 are just for when I am target shooting. I would have no reservations shooting a deer at 40 yards. My limit used to be 30 yards, but I got a Katera last year and my confidence went out to 40yards.My Katera is set at 70lbs and averages around 306fps in the chronograph.

RE: Bow sight distance
I'm the oddman out here, but I let the bow set-up determine where I'll set pins. On my Trykon, my pin set is 24,32,40,48 as those yardages give me the best set-up for the arrow speed I'm getting high 270-s to 280-ish, with my couple of slower bows, 255-260, I'm at 22-30-36-42. Now it takes some concentration and remembrance to keep everything sorted out, but I know a mid shot between the 24 and 32 is gonna be about 28 and I can hold a just a hair over or under for 26 or 30, I drop about 3/4 inch between 32 and 40, so I know that if I'm cutting a few yards, I need to hold the 40 about 3" low, 40-48, I drop an inch per yard, and after 48, it start dropping faster....1.5" per yard to 58 or so, then it's about 2" per yard. I don't practice past 60, because I don't see a need to ever shoot past 60. That being said, I'll likely set up differently for elk hunting this fall, and I may be upgrading to a completely different set-up, still undecided at this point.
