Default getting my first bow tomorrow

I was looking around in an pawn shop today, looked in the gun/bow area, they had an old bear compound for $50. really was not wanting an compound do to a bad right shoulder, but I pull 2 different bows back while I was there. did not bother my shoulder at all. don't really like the sight that is on it. but that is a future buy.

I have not bought the bow yet. short on funds. get paid friday. so I'll be picking it up there. I am going to try to get an release, some arrows and field tips just to get my started. get my hunting gear later.

1: is $50 a good deal for something you don't know if you will like?
2: anyone have an idea of how much an release may run in mom and pops.

Would be good if someone who is experienced with bows could go along with you and look it over and make sure it fits you. JMO.

I agree make sure it fits you. $50 is not a huge investment to try the sport of archery and see if you like it, but if the bow doesn't fit you right you might as well throw your money away.

+1, if it is an OLDER bow, it may be set up with a lot longer draw than we usually see with more "modern" bows. I had a couple older bows that were 29-32 and 30-32" DL one being an "Older" Bear. If you're gonna shoot fingers it's not so bad, put a release on it, and you may not be very happy. In all seriousness, you could probably get a half decent set-up for a little more money if you shopped right in the classified either here or on Archerytalk.com. I've picked up a few decent bows there for good prices for friends, as cheap as $125 for a half decent modern Hoyt or $150 for a modern Martin ready to shoot. Check out some of these here: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=100you may find something that fits you and is what you're looking for at a decent price. Also check out this link http://www.huntersfriend.com/draw-length-weight.htm it gives you a ballpark idea on what your DL should be with a release shot compound bow.
