P&Y Scoring...WHY is it the way it is?

Matt's buck will easily make P&Y. It was scored wrong.
So you've got a buck pushing 150" that doesn't make "book"?
Like was mentioned above, P&Y is too deep into their rules to ever change.
I prefer Gross but that's just the way I like it. B&C/P&Y look for perfection. I can see the point in a way but times have changed.

ANY buck.....GROSS's (I think you meant, Rob) in 140's.....and doesn't net P&Y minimum.
Now really.....if it doesn't make book.....and you're all about the record keeping aspect of the org......what have you learned about this area?

It would certainly be a bite in teh shorts to shoot a monster deer, like near-record size, and then have it come WAY down because of a couple abnormal points.

The clubwas formed in 1961 and patterned after the Boone & Crockett club. Boone & Crockett's scoring system was based off of the way they measured horns (cattle) which rewarded symmetry.
I doubt these clubs ever thought deer hunting would be where it is today.
These clubs wanted to promote conservation and fair chase as well askeep a log of "outstanding" specimens that were killed.

Jeff,
That is one of my biggest complaints about P&Y. A deer is what he is and should not be lessened for something he isn't (perfectly symmetrical). I like the SCI method much better!
As far as changing. They can do it! The new records start at this point_________! How hard is that? Remember the special "*" which was given to those bowhunters which killed trophies using a bow greater than 65% letoff? The same thing could be applied. How about a "+" which would signify a trophy taken after Jan. 1st, 2009-the +next to a namewould elude to "no deductions"! As long as everyone was on the same page, what would it matter?
I've always said open mindsprovide greater success.

The rules were set from the beginning and far as I know have notchanged. (fair playing field)A stringent system for measuring bucks not meant for "learning an area".

Just so you know....your NC buck only had 1/2" in deductions. Sadly....he didn't make (P&Y) minimum, though[8D]
