Christmas

RE: Christmas
I knew there were SOME good guys on here. It makes me smile when I read how others give to those less fortunate.
To all my FRIENDS on here, I pray that you all will have safe and merry Christmas! Take time to remember those who won't have such a wonderful day to include our military brothers overseas and the destitute.

I'm doing the same. We have Hunters for the Hungry program. So, hopefully before Christmas I can take out a few in the herd and let people enjoy some good backstrap!
I don't want anything for Christmas, I'm over that.

RE: Christmas
At work we're doing a food drive this year given the economy, etc. instead of Toys for Tots. I understand that, but I also understand how awful it must be kids who get nothing. So I'm happy to see that people are still giving to both in good numbers. I like programs like this and giving to my church and benefits for members of the church and the local women's shelter, etc. where I can see contributions actually being put to use. Some people might think that's selfish, but I actually am more concerned about dedicating hard-earned resources to some organizations that might squander them on administrative fees instead of helping people with them.
That's great that so many people are helping other people out. That's the way it should be instead of the government cutting checks to everyone.
Quick side story: The local VFW always donates $$$ to my wife's school for her and her co-workers to buy disadvantaged and special needs kids toys for Xmas. When all is said and done, they have about $7 per kid to spend, which the teachers work hard to stretch at the local Super Wal-Mart. This year, the teachers suggested to the VFW that maybe they could buy each kid a really nice Xmas themed book for their parents to read to them and the VFW guys got all hot under the collar. One of them told my wife she must have voted for Barack Obama with an idea like that and that he was going to write a letter to the local paper telling them how anti-American and Xmas the school was if they did that.

Last night, I helped cut up 4 deer to donate. My best friend works for a wealthy landowner and they knocked a bunch down during 2nd gun, and the hunters don't do anything with the meat, so we cut them up to donate. My job is charity, so as far as giving goes, I do it everyday! I run a free clinic, for people with no insurance or other 3rd party payment mechanism. We have an in-house pharmacy as well where we dispense medications free of charge.

Earlier this week my g/f talked with a family we use to hang around some back when we had more time to mingle. The mother of the family told Jenny (my g/f) that Christmas was going to be tough this year, no money around to get there kids Christmas presents being her husband had gotten layed off 2 months prior. I then made the trip to the bank and pulled out a 100.00 dollars and gave It to Jenny and told her to go and get the kids some gifts. The mother of the family Is pregnant and on bed rest otherwise she would of done It. The mother then called me and asked why I did what I did? I told her I did It for the kids as that's what Christmas Is about. Money Is very tight with me also but a smile on a kids face Is what It's all about.

RE: Christmas
I personally am a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters, so im taking my little guy out once a week all year long. He only has his dad at home as well as 3 other sisters and they are not very fortunate. At christmas i run down to Wal-Mart and get them a $100.00 gift certificate and hand it off to his dad so he can buy them some gifts for christmas. I am happy to hear everyone else is doing there best to help out, i consider myself truly blessed to have the opportunities i do.
