Default RE: What have you learned this season ?

Dan, that thicket trick is absolutly true. I have set up in ipen woods on the edge of a thicket, I have yet to see a doe there in the AM, and its only been bucks coming through and scent checking the corners and looking out in the woods for does. THe spot of my only mature bck spotting this year, and he stuck around just long enough for me to decide I wasnt going to be happ with the half rack, if he has a chance of getting bigger next year.

I also learned quantity over quality. Id rather see bigger deer than mroe deer.

There is a reason people from PA flock to IL.
Rob, Is there any chance that someday management practices will change in PA? Is there anyone interested in QDM? QDM took a while to catch on in southern -central Wis. Now I'm seeing more and more QDM signs hung up. Where I grew up a tight racked 8 pointer was a great buck. My grandpa killed a lot of bucks and he has a lovely collection of spikes and forks hanging above his workbench. When I started hunting I never passed up a buck. Things have changed because people have changed. At least some of them.
No, as a entire hunting population standpoint, management practices will never change in PA. It's too much big $. We have a herd estimation just over 1 million deer. We have 1 million hunters. You do the math.
