You guys can't tell Me that You wouldn't be bummed if You were after a monster buck, and had hunted all year for it. Daylight to Dark for MONTHS. I mean for 3 or 4 days a week since the start of bow season.
If you truly hunted for this buck that hard and for that long and only got one crack at him, Maybe you should ask your neighbor for some hunting tips

It happens to everyone at sometime. The neighbor could just as well have been bowhunting or driving his car down the road and run into the thing. It's natures wild critter and we have no possession tag for them until we shoot them. Don't condemn your neighbor because he likes to hunt or hunts with something different than you. At least he didn't sneak into your place and shoot it at night. I remember watching 4 bucks one summer, an12, 10,8 and a nice 6. I had them figured out... no question. I arrived opening morning to find the 12 had been run over by a car the night before. His carcass was beside the road with his horns cut off by a local cop. The 10 I killed on opening morning. The 8 we found shot with a gun weeks before gun season opened. The 6 jumpedd off a bank into the path of a car and greviously injured a local school teacher who ended up with brain damage and will never teach again. Stuff happens. Your neighbor sounds like had a fair chase hunt and was successful. Congradulate him. If you shot it before gun season he could be complaining about the bow hunters having the advantage of the first season.

Rory You must be a rare breed. I don't know many people who wouldn't be bummed if they didn't get the buck They've been after. Just because I said I was bummed thatI didn't getthe deerdoesn't mean I have bad feeling towards the guy who got it, or that I won't congratulate Him. I mean its like buying a lottery ticket, and then the next guy buys one, and wins a million dollars. Sure You'd be bummed out You didn't buy another one, but You'd still tell the other guy congratulations

Your opening sentence is
I hate gun season with a passion.
But you're not being poor about this? Interesting.

I hate gun season with a passion. I wish they would get rid of it.
That is completely unrealistic and something NO hunter should ever wish for.

Its one thing to find no pleasure or enjoyment in gun hunting, but to wish it was eliminated....bad attitude.
