RE: My Offical Stance on the Moon Theory
Like IBH, I've had some very good years where I killed a buck during a full moon. THIS year however has been a bust for rutting activity. The weather has sucked with too warm, rainy and then -OF COURSE - WINDY. But I just talked to a guy who is a breeder of deer and he said they've been breeding there for a week or so - and he's not that far away from where I am. I think the Alsheimer schedule is waaaay off this year. Most years, it seems like the rut takes place at pretty much the same time - full moon or not.

Germ, I've got to hand it to you. Not only did you get a true laugh out loud, but a snort too.
This has been a wierd rut. I've seen chasing, and heard of bucks staying with a single hot doe, but not the activity you'd expect for this time of year.

Germ...Were you reading my mind? I hate this full moon crap, I like it black as coffee. Me, Dad and my brother sat ALL DAY today and me and my Dad see a total of 0deer, and my brother seen 2 this morning and 2 this evening....this area is usually a deer mecca. If it wasn't for the fact that it's supposed to snow tomorrow, I'd sleep in

RE: My Offical Stance on the Moon Theory
All I can say is the full moon made no difference in me seeing rutting activity in my arealike many thought it would. I too, now agree that a doe will go into estrus regardless of moon phase/position. I can't say there's nothing to the moon and deer movement because I don't know enough about it YET.
The thing I can't undestand is this photoperiodism (amount of light in a given day) concept. If this theory holds true, why don't all does go into estrus at the same time? This deerhunting thing is an ongoing learning experience. That much I am sure of! For whatever it's worth, it's going to be a new moon/no moon (dark)phase with the moon rising and going down during the day while I'll be hunting Alberta next week. There are those who say this is an ideal scenario. It will be interesting to see what happens.
