ORIGINAL: GMMAT

People who have pets have an obligation to control them.
Exactly.

I live in the "country" and I admittedly let my dog roam free when it's not deer season. Come deer season.....my Lab's either in her room in the basement (which gives her access to a 32x20 fenced in run, also), in the house....or she's within my sight.

if she ran off into the woods and got shot....NOBODY would be at fault....except ME.
I am in full agreement with you. When I had dogs and they got loose during hunting season on accident, I felt like I was responsible if they were shot by a hunter. A dog has no place but on your own property. I don't blame others especially ifI caused the problem.

AF, be careful trying to capture them. I would not do that. They probably do not have their shots and could even carry rabies. At this point if they have been let loose for that long they are wild and could bite you and you would have to get treated for rabies just as a precaution. I would handle them as a coyote, fox or wolf at this point.

That surely explains the lack of deer sightings you've encountered. A few free running dogs like that can ruin a good spot for the whole season. You've done everything you can to rectify the situation with the owner. You have proof the dogs are still around and continuing to ruin your hunt. It's now time to make them go away by whatever means is necessary. I'd prefer to see them turned in to a shelter, but I'd do what you need to do to salvage the rest of the season. Why some people get animals they have no intention on caring for is beyond me.

Damn, I thought I would upset some on here by saying I would have already shot them. I guess I should give people more credit. AF, you know what you have to do.

I concur. I comend you on your efforts and understanding AF. I've have had numerous dogs come by me when I hunt but I don't have the heart to evershoot one. If I had one that was really bad, I'd try and livetrap it too.

I was walking my dog on amorning a few daysbefore xmaswhen I was 12 years old, the dog was well trained andoff leashwalking about thirty yards ahead of me in the woods as she loved to sniff around and run. I was walking with it on198 acres that we owned, I heard acar slow down about 60 yardson the road, I heard a gun shot and looked up and saw my German Shepard whom I adoredlaying in a pool of blood in the snow with bloodgirglingfrom its mouth as it died. It broke my heart and I still think about that dog to this veryday. It affects kids a lot when you shoot their pet.

Iknow wild dogs are a bigproblem but when you see that collar you have tomake the effort to let the dogowner know before taking action just like AF did. I know it's infuriating to have your hunt spoiled but pet owners and kids don't understand what's happening sometimes. Most people still think bowhunting does not exist because it's a very unobtrusive and stealthyform of hunting that largely goesunnoticed, most people don't consider us when thinking about their dogs.

Well, it's easy to see we have different standards. The dogs haven't been seen on my personal property for over a week and I do not own the land where they are. He has dogs and would never shoot a dog himself. He set up a trap for them and if they return, he'll live catch them and deal with the dog owner himself.

Another case of stupid dog owners. Its not the dogs fault, they are just doing what they have been doing for hundreds of years, Being Dogs.
I say go to his house and give him a good old attitude adjustment. Introduce him to the sole of your boot. I bet the dogs are back in his yard tied up within 24 hours..[:@]
