I agree...however, I dont recognize NET score. When I score a deer that I, or a friend has shot- I get the gross and thats what I tell people.
Net is for contests, gross is for ME !
112 - 118"
I get your point, gross is quick, but net gets you in the book.

Nice buck and while I seldom guess about score I'd put him somewhere in the 120 range.

Just ask my brother how important net is. He killed a 10pt last year that grossed 148. But after deductions his score of 139 5/8 missed the Indiana Big Buck Book by 3/8 of an inch.

I only look at the scoring clubs as references for how a deer or game species scores, not guidelines. If mine makes it, cool. If mine doesn't, again cool....its still the same deer.
In hunters talk, gross is what is told.
In the books, net is what is recorded.

Most of you guys are way off on this one. It's not going to score anymore than 105. It's a high rack which makes it look bigger than it is, it has short tines, short main beams and is an 8 point, it's hard for 8's to score well. It's a pretty buck, made a nice mount and the boys in the picture seem tolove it too!

Don't get me wrong, he is still awful proud of that bruiser. I have never killed a deer that has even been close to making a "book". He hadn't either. There are very few deer killed in Indiana that make the book on a given year. He was pumped up that it had a chance and was deflated when it missed out. Same thing goes for my uncle that shot a BC class buck years back. Missed the BC book by 1 inch. Awsome deer, but still a downer that he was so close yet so far. Most of use only get a shot at a book buck once in a lifetime and it can be disheartening to miss out on a rare opportunity. I am just saying.
