My 2003 stand setups began in fall of 2002! I use a deer log, and make notes of interesting spots to setup, or tried, and could use improving. I haven' t done any actual leg work yet on those new or improving spots. But will this spring. I still have a foot of snow yet on the ground here!

I always spend time after season goes out preparing for the next season. I look for new stand locations and cut new shooting lanes at my present stands. I spend alot of time in the woods from Jan-Mar then i' m usually out until mid July when i go back to my stands to trim the new growth that has grown up. I really enjoy post season scouting and working in the off season for the upcoming year.

I have been out a bunch of times already. I like to find new trees for my climber. Then I can have the tree prepared and my trail to the stand prepared. I know it does help to wait and see where the bucks will be later but I only have a few areas to myself to hunt so I will be there no matter what. Also once the rut comes in the same old hot spots will still be good. Its too late to start when the temps hit 90 and the leaves are out!!!!!!

Unless Ive lost some ground and picked up new I dont usually do a whole lot untill August. I try to keep three to four good bucks in sight, and unless they were harvested my job is easier.Three of my four from last year survived another year, so other than trying to get sightings off and on during the summer from long range, I stay out of the woods mostly.Besides I really like a good case of chigger infestation. A guy just dont get the joy of that when its colder.

Since I lost my job about 2 weeks ago, I' ve taken advantage of the extra time to try to secure some new hunting areas. Nothing too exciting so far, but at least I' m out in the woods.

I' ve got a couple new spots in mind for this fall. I' ve " roughed them in" a couple weeks ago. Hopefully this weekend I can finish them off. It sure helps to get to this before the mosquitos and ticks are bad.
Good Luck!

This will be my first full bow hunting season. Last year I got in on the last month, but only saw from a distance. But got to scout it out and figure out a plan of attack.
I have a plot planted with clover and alfalfa,(no one has or plants alfalfa here) also a mineral lick going. I have my spots picked out. Easter, I' m setting the feeder out there and getting them fed good. I hope I have time to start the tree house.
The nice part is, while I' m working on the plot and the stands, feral hogs are coming and going, close by!
The bad part, all this is 75 miles from my house at my in-laws in Gonzales.
