ORIGINAL: Howler

I don't think breathing through your nose is a bypass for covering up your breath....
Huh?? Bad breath comes from the bacteria in your mouth, not your lungs! breathing through your nose by-passes your mouth, simple as that!
Okay, I wasn't real clear. Bad wording...

If you think that breathing through your nose doesn't give off an odor, you are wrong.

The thing about the gum is....you're constantly swallowing when you chew it. So whatever "scent" is in your throat......will go out your nose. Also your nose will filter your breath better than your mouth.
