RE: Question about the rut in Kentucky
Im banking on Nov 1-7 on my best shots at a buck..8th is rifle opener.
Ill be taking my girlfriend gun hunting 8-9 to try and get her first deer. After that its back to bow for me that week, gun pressure normally isnt too bad on the weekdays.

Next year I will hunt up there, but I doubt I make it up any this year. Bow only would be sweet, danged ole rifle hunters are thicker than the actual deer on the private land areas I hunt. I always find it amusing to see just how futile your attempts are. Last years opener, I passed three solid 1.5 6 point basket racks in a row that morning, each one crossed the creek, walked up the neighbors ridge...BOOM....this repeats THREE times....i then see a rather large atv loaded down with three burly guys dragging three small bucks.[&:][&o] The neighbor doesnt hunt, but it is his son in laws friends from AL that come in each year and slay everything....friends of the in laws, now thats stretching the limits of relationships to hunt.
Ill be back in there again this year though, every other farm surrounding this piece is 140"+ standards (not me), and there are still big deer in the area. I saw the 195"ish buck FROM STAND3 years ago, that a neighbor shot late muzzleloader. I just have to catch one acting dumb that first week of November in order to get something done.
