Default Would you take the shot...?

Alright, having almost two more weeks to go until season opens here in Western NY, I have been watching way too many hunting shows on TV. The other night I watched a show (can't recall which) and this kid took a shot (probably 20 yards or less) at a really nice buck. Broadside shot at ground level (or close). Not optimal, but decent angle. My question is, assuming you have a pass through (which is the preferred result), there was another buck not two yards behind this one. Would you take the shot knowing you have a decent chance of ALSO hitting the other buck?

I didn't see the show, but it is a general rule not to do that. If the deer are not on alert, a better shot should present itself.

If I'm on the ground like you eluted to that the kid was I would not take the shot. If I was 10' up In a tree, you bet!

I just did this friday on a couple of hogs. I wouldn't do it with deer. I got a pass through on one hog that I didn't find. The second hog was recovered after 25 yds.

I was always brought up to know your background as well as your target. Since the front buck (the intended target)was almost superimposed on top of the back buck, I couldn't see any way you could not hit it on a pass through.

Why take a chance at wounding 2 animals. Part of my problem is always waiting for the perfect shot,Happened last year with a real nice buck, had a good shot chance but waited for the perfect one which never came. Should have taken the the good shot chance I had.
