Where are the damned bucks!?!?
A group of does/fawns goes to the same backyard (that has a lot of food). They arrive at 5pm, leave and come back at sunset (about 7pm). They do this every day almost religiously. As the season gets nearer, the fawns get bigger, and new does show up. The herd is about 7-10 in all. Hard to estimate as 3/4 of the herd shows up at a time. Question is, where are all the bucks?!? Doesnt make much sense to me that this many does show, but not even a single button. Any Ideas? They are not showing up in the middle of the night either, I checked the tracks on the ground. If it helps, this is in CT.
Side note, First trip into the woods today! (didnt go to the above mentioned place)
Man, it feels great to be in the woods. No luck, but it was still nice. My adrenalin was going for hours, and at one point, somehow a bird managed to scare the living hell out of me. By sunset I was calm, but its probably a good thing I didnt see a deer as I probably would have missed it ten yards high.

I dont think they really choose the does this early, actually I dont think they choose at all, if a hot doe would happen by him or he gets wind of one, hell be on the prowl, but right now its waaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for any of that. I havent seen too many bucks yet myself. But they are there, they are still in bachelor groups that are starting to break up.

Perhaps the local "stud" buck has already chose his does to mate with. And perhaps all the buttons are afraid to trot in and try. afraid of being attacked by a stud
