Anyone know how bad the hunting pressure is on Union Ridge or any of the other conservation areas in the northeastern part of the state? Keep in mind...we'll be there the 2nd week in October and be hunting Mon-Fri.

Many are archery only, and any of them would be a good bet if in the central or northern part of the state. You will likely be all alone during the week like that on any of the areas. Union Ridge, Indian Hills, Ted Shanks, Yellow Creek, Fountain Groove are some areas I have personnal knowledge of and I know are allgoing to be good. There is also one that the name slips me now, that some friends hunt, up in the very corner of MO, NE, and IA that borders the MO River that is loaded with deer. There are many, many more areas that would be worth a look for sure.
You may be able to secure some private ground but if you are short on time I would not hesitate to hunt our public ground.

You might try Henry Seaver Conservation Area its north of Edina, Mo. I talked to the caretaker last year and he told me that he hasn't had any bow hunters there for the last several years. I know during firearms season its probably not safe, but what public land is. lol. Anyway the property is at least 400 + acres. If you need to know anymore I would be glad to help out.

Check out www.spikesnspurs.com I booked a hunt with him and am heading down there in a couple weeks. This is his first year in operation, but he has some good pics up on the website and is running some great deals. Give Travis a call and tell him Tim told you to call and you saw this on Huntingnet. Good luck where ever you go!!

RE: Missouri?
Thanks for the help guys! I think we've decided on public land. I've looked at aerial maps of many of the areas but still aren't sure how much pressure the areas get. I also spoke with the Central and Northeast regional offices and have contact numbers for several game wardens but haven't been able to get in touch with one yet. Anymore help I can get will be greatly appreciated!

RE: Missouri?
Anyone have any suggestions on a town to stay in close byto the Union Ridge/Rebel's Cove areas? Anymore suggestions on conservation areas and hunting pressure? Trying to get as much info as possible so we'll know what to expect when we arrive. Keep in mind, I've never even been to Missouri!

RE: Missouri?
kirksville would be the closest big town, but could stay in milan. would be the same distansts to union ridge and close to locust creek area also light in pressure. plus some smaller areas. kirksville would be the best choice probably due to more larger town.

Go to the MDC website and browse the public hunting areas.

Good post Robin, I considered a trip into that region until my buddy had some family issues (A DIVORCE) come up this summer, and had to pull outof the trip. Probably worked out for the best, since I had to have surgery 3 wks. ago anyhow, and I'm still not 100% sure how well I'll be in the woods.
