Dude here in Oregon where I live there are a lot of bears. We can hunt them but not bait them nor use dogs same with cougars. It is freaky going into the woods and knowing something is watching you and not having anything but a bow. Ha ha but the good news is we can carry a hand gun with us.
The thing here that freaks me out more than bear and Cougar is WEED Crops there are a lot here. Its crazy and meth labs. Freaking sucks.

more wolves than bears in my area, havent had a bear pass thru that I know of in a year or so. but your right, up till about 5-6 years ago never heard of a bear in the area and if you saw one, no one would have ever belived you, ever, you would have been labled a crazy person.

I live in central wi and have had a few run ins with bears on my property. Ever since I got bluff charged I always carry my Taurus.44 Revolver. I just cant take the chance of coming between a sow and her cubs. If it came down to me and the sow, I liek to know Id come out on top. Screw the pepper spray trick.

I hunt in northern WI and I saw bears twice while bowhunting and once while gun hunting last year. I carry a handgun everytime I bowhunt. My dad was sitting in a stand that I had shot a deer out of a few days prior and had a sow and 2 cubs come in to eat the gut pile. He yelled, threw sticks etc and they wouldn't leave until he fired his gun into the ground.
Hey Boo Boo, looks like a pic a nic basket to me!
