Im confused!!!
Ok, I know very little about blacktails so I ask this: Is the deer Bullet Hole shot the same as what's in Alaska? B/c if it is the same, he shot a GIANT compared to what I saw from Alaska. Sitka and Columbia blacktails are not the same right?? I know Alaska has the sitka, but it says their range is from Alaska to the west coast??

RE: Im confused!!!
Its equivalency is different based on which scoring books you use. Boone and Crockett considers it equal to a very high 160's inch whitetail while P&Y considers it into the 180's.....either way a pig of a deer.
A monster that will be hard to top but a good goal to set out for each year.

Looks like according to the NW Big Game records there are actually 3 different "subspecies"? of Blacktail deer found in Oregon alone.
Cascade, Columbian, Northwest.

RE: Im confused!!!
There are places in CA where blacktail and mulie inter-breed. The dnr sets different zones and the deerare recorded in the books according to its location and subsequent classification as mulie or blacktail. At least that's how it worked when I lived in Eureka, CA six years ago.
