Good idea !! only problem hornets are dormant in the fall/winter, but if there dumb enough to steal rather than work for things, they wouldn't know that little detail

I'm surprised that's not a new product to "deter stand theft"-- a simulated hornet nest you attach to your stand when done hunting. Look for it this time next year- ATA show- Who would be the first host to glomb onto this product?

My dad was a bee- keeper. He would "recruit" me to help him with problem calls- I've dealt with these deals before- just do it at night- preferably when it's cool. He used to spray some kind of insecticide in a black trash bag, scale up the tree (with me holding the light or ladder) and put the trash bag over the nest- tie it off then saw the limb off. ....then we would usually have a nervous drive home. good luck.
