"But really, all you need to know about momentum is that, all things being equal, heavier and denser objects traveling at the same speed as lighter objects will have greater momentum. .
No where do I read where that says the same bow. I don't determine "all things being equal" as the same bow....more so I'm thinking as in the density of the target, wind, etc...nothing about that statement says same bow to me. I see you read it differently so no use in debating it. I take as as simple statement about momentum and nothing more.
Okay guys, if we REALLLLLLLLLLY want to over analyze it. Hell he's not even mentioning ARROWS. IT'S OBJECTS so what the hell are we even debating same bow or different bows for.

Reread it guys.

Putting it another way, it is more difficult to stop a heavy arrow, which means it will penetrate more deeply"
And that statement is as true as they come!

I'm usually one of the ones touting D&DH articles....but this recent issue has an article discussing the advantages to a heavy hunting arrow....and the author says this:

"But really, all you need to know about momentum is that, all things being equal, heavier and denser objects traveling at the same speed as lighter objects will have greater momentum. Putting it another way, it is more difficult to stop a heavy arrow, which means it will penetrate more deeply".

If you're touting heavy arrows over lighter arrows.....what's wrong with these statements?
The quote is absolutely true and accurate ........ am I missing something? What is the issue???

all things being equal
OK....."equal" is two Mathews Switchbacks at 70#'s.

Same 29" draw length.

Same archer.

You CAN'T shoot the heavier arrow at the same seed as you can the lighter arrow.
The guy does not mean the bow as the "equal", He means arrow speed, target, etc....

So let me get this straight.......

The "average" deer hunter.....reading this article.....is supposed to discern that the ONLY way the author's statement can hold water......is for the same reader to use "common sense" to know that the only way this can be possible.....is for the reader to utilize a different draw weight to propel the heavier arrow the same speed as the lighter arrow?

And this means "all things being EQUAL"?

So for "all things to be equal".....we have to use DIFFERENT draw weights OR a DIFFERENT bow.

Makes sense....

The ENTIRE PREMISE of the article is built around arrows. WHAT ELSE would he be talking about?

Have you read it?

mo·men·tum

1.
force or speed of movement; impetus, as of a physical object or course of events: The car gained momentum going downhill.
speedPhysics The rate or a measure of the rate of motion, especially:

Distance traveled divided by the time of travel.
[/ol]
So can somebody explain why one is different from the other? I realize mass is involved to some degree.

Don't need to Jeff, it's a VERY GENERIC statement to understand momentum.

Maybe I'm gifted or something but I totally got the generic statement. [8D]
