Theanswer is more complex for me than just meat or antlers. My success in the woods doesn't depend on one or the other. For me success in a much more emotional than physical thing. That said you can't eat antlers. I hope to succeed in filling at least 3 tags this year. Two does and one buck with a really nice set of antlers.

I put a pile of meat in the freezer last year and had a blast
I put 3 sets of P & Y bucks on the wall the last 3 years and had a blast
When you do not put any meat in the freezer, or bone on the wall and you are succesful, well than your there
What's the point of the question?

I've always judged success by dead deer.
I can have fun whether I kill anything or not.
To answer the question, I would be more bummed out(actually completely amazed)if I ended the season having only killed a nice buckand no does.

Antlers on the wall = both meat and antlers. This is the one I'd choose. Meat in the freezer, while a success, is not very hard to accomplish with the abundance of doe tags that are available to me. A simple way to put it is that my bow hunting is all about the antlers (with meat as a plus) and gun hunting fills the freezer with meat.

Either works for me.
However this year I have a distint plan....
Sept 15th - Oct. 3rd will be dedicated to a buck that will satisfy "MY" goals of being 100+" OR 3 1/2 years or older".
If I am not successful with a buck by then, I will spend a few weeks in known Doe areas to try and put meat in the freezer to take the pressure off me and have some fun.
Then, if I've scored a Doe, I will go back to Buck only as mentioned above, for the remander of the season to try and achieve "MY" personal goal.
That's my idea of fun for me!
