To much is put on weather or not it is a "mature" deer. I live by the saying "If it's brown it's down" and I will even take it a step farther than that because I don't care if it has spots. Some think this is wrong but it is some of the best eating you will ever have! To each his own!!!! If you don't feel comfortable about shooting 1 year old or younger deer then don't do it and don't let me or anyone else to you should or shouldn't. It's your tag use it how you want!!!

I try to take some out of every age group. If you take only older does, then you are taking out the teachers. If you take out only younger deer then you are limiting your approaching older deer.

Just in my opinion and only my opinion is I dont harvest does. But thats me. I prefer to see the does get to breed and have younguns. This is due to Indianas gun season where many many does are slaughtered. Someone has to keep the balance. Im not against harvesting does but here in Indiana the gun season takes its toll on Does. Management is poor in my area where I hunt. I hunt bucks, even though I cant eat the antlers...

I usually shoot the biggest in the group, which is usually the first in line. I just figure that they are the smartest and will end up wreaking havoc on me when it counts if I dont knock em out when i can.
