I like the velvet look, I would (could) not lower my standards but if the chance arose I would take it in a minute, I have plenty of hardbone on the wall but no velvet!!!!!

I actually dont care for it on deer. I think polished bone looks better IMO.

I agree! Honestly, it's not something that I'm after. Season opens in Missouri on September 15th and a lot of deer are still in velvet. It's just never been a big deal to me personally. I think after a number of years mounted on the trophy wall, they begin to look a bit strange as well!

Exactly Jeff. Thats why I raise my standards. I know if I see a buck in velvet that appears to be a 140 at first glance, I assume hes really onlya 130; thus I raise my standards by 8-10 inches.

At the moment velvet doesn't mean a whole lot. If I ever would find the desire to pursue one, I would head to a place that had a season, and decent chance of getting one of a size I would be happy with.

Right now, there is pretty much no chance of a buck still having velvet in when my season rolls in.

I like polished antler far better than velveted. I once thought I'd like one in velvet but after seeing more I think I'll pass and mount them in polished antler.

I've always wanted to shoot a buck in velvet. If I ever do, I'll probably get him mounted. With that said, I'm not going to go shooting a 1.5 year old just because he is in velvet, but I would like to get one and I'm sure eventually the opportunity will present itself.

No reason to push it.

I too like the polished antlers much better, but i would like to have a velvet buck on the wall one day just to have one.
