Aiming for the crease

RE: Aiming for the crease
With that 3D target quartering toward you if you aim for that 10 ring you are going to get diaphram, liver and guts. The very back of one lung at best. I'd aim for that 10 ring if he was quarting away from me at a good angle.
Gregs green dot is perfect on a broadside shot. So many people think that the shoulder blade goes straight up from the elbow. There is a huge "hole" between the elbow and the top of the shoulder as Christine's pic illustrates perfectly.

Ok have at him
Ok have at him
Okay, now that we got that out of the way. I'm going a little low and slightly left of GregH's arrow (gotta aim for the exit ya know). This deer is alert, you have a 15x zoom on the camera, he's not as close as he looks... gotta aim low for the reaction at the shot.

I aim for the top half of the heart. Ifthe deer ducks, I cut the aorta off of the heart, if not, I just blew out the pump station.
TFOX,
I disagree on the 3D target, I think 3D targets mislead hunters into shooting deer too far back. This doe was hit right in the crease, and she travelled no more than 80yds, to her death, with her AORTA detached from her heart. Sure the 10spot WILL do, but in all honesty, if a guy is aiming for the top of the heart, in the crease, it leaves MORE room for error, and considering how many deer jump string, it makes that shot all that much more sensible, at least to me it does.

All of the shots are killing shots but GregH dot is where I would shoot him also just because if he does try and jump the string on you they always drop down and go slightly forward before exploding. So GregH dot would move to the center of the lungs if that happens. Walt
