I like the way you think
As a Martial Arts instructor I feel very strongly you have the right to defend yourself. If a pyhsical attack is made you should defend yourself. Now on the other hand I feel it could have been handeled in a manner that didn' t escilate the situation to the point where physical violence is needed. If an argument reaches that point than both parties are at fault to some degree. Under the law the older party in this case could face some strong charges for his actions.

RE: My buddy wanted u guy' s opinion
I am suprised there is so few responses to this- I would be very upset at the loss of a day in the woods, because of an anti.
When I first started hunting with a bow many moons ago, I remember stopping at a gas station earlier in the morning to get snacks or gas before my morning hunt. In the station there were two police drinking coffee at the front desk. When I got to the counter to pay , one of the officers looked at me and asked " are you going out to kill Bambi" to this day I wish I would of stood up for myself and I' m mad that I did not. I was not doing anything wrong, they had NO right to harass me, and thats exactly what they were doing. Today I would probably go to jail if that happened again, but at least I would have stood up for myself.
Just because we are hunters doesnt mean we have to kiss everybodys butt that don' t like our sport. We are not doing anything wrong- Good for your friend, I hope he kicked the old mans ass but good. (I wouldn' t feel sorry for the old coot, I' ve seen 60 year old guys out there that could probably kick my butt, In his old age he should have been wiser, and if he has elzhimers he wont remember the butt kicking by the next day anyway.)
Boy, can I hear it comming know, oops!

I think punching the living terd out of someone is not the only way to protect and defend your son. I don' t see anything wrong with clobering him one as long as you don' t go over board. But you should always try and respect your elders by not smacken em out. I probably would of got right in there face and said a few words (not compliments mind you [>:]) and then probably moved on spitting n cursing them.
There are other ways that would' ve scared the liven snot out of the old codger so he would' nt do it again. This is were Lilhunter' s idea of a rubber blunt comes in handy[>:]. I try to respect my elders but you just can' t go around letting them walk all over you, they should also respect you, so you should stand up for yourself. After all your buddy was not doing anything wrong.
Well that' s what I think but if in the heat of the moment everythig fails... run home to mummy!!

On further reading that they old guy and his companion were on your mates property then that would make me twice as mad so he could verbally abuse them as much as he wanted for all I care, untill they got off his property. That would be something that would definitly rub my fur the wrong way.
