I hunted a place the first year I moved to IL that gave me the willies a little. It was loaded with locust trees
Those things are downright dangerous!

Hunted around acouple old homesites before. Houses have been abandon for decades. Perks your attention walking by them in the dark. Trees growing up through them and all. Found an abandon stil as well. Loblolly pine forrests are creepy. So quiet, you can here a pin drop. No birds, no nothing. Just the buzzing of insects.

Just a foot note here two seasons ago i was walking out in the dark and kept hearing something behind me. it would stop when i did to look around and begain following me when i would start to leave. It sounded about 25 yards behind me in the weeds [X(]I was about to crap my pants because i just knew it was Raptor about to attack. It ended up being my pull roap came undone from my climber [&:]DOH!!!
OMG, people are staring at me at work because I'm laughing so loud at this. That is great. Stalking yourself, hey Dan?

I read that as I was going to bed last night ..... I laughed for about 5 minutes!

Had a spot on the east coast of NC a few years ago- had to walk about 200 yards down a narrow trail into an oak flat in the swamp- got there and my seat on my climber had been chewed on by a bear - foam rubber everywhere, took my skinny butt up the tree, about 30 minutes after light here comes the culprit about a 350 lber - guess he liked the smell of my butt and wanted to try the real thing

One time when I was maybe 19, I shot a nice big bodied 6 point on land that I just was given permission to hunt the night before....needless to say I was young and stupid, walking into the woods in the middle of the darkness, not knowing anything about the layout. I got lost and proceeded to drag that buck around for 6-7 hours ( yes I was alot stronger back then and I didn't want anyone to get "my" buck )....I accidentally drug it out on some powerlines....at at that point I met two rednecks straight out of Deliverance!!!! Good lord the woods were creepy that day, luckily I had 3, 3 inch mags in the chamber!

I live and hunt in griz, black bear and cat country and we have people attacked up here every year, but the thing that I feel the most uneasy about is stumbling across something I shouldn't. I'm talking about maybe some methheads making there brew or a grow operation. A lot of folks here think I'm under gun paking a 3" SS 357 when I'm in the bush but I don't pack it for the 4 legged animals but the two legged ones give me the gee-bees sometimes and I'm not really scared of too many things but I do use extreme caution when going to my stand before light and coming out after dark and have had the living crap scared out of me when I startle a grouse and it flies out under your feet before you step on it. This is when your heart skips a couple of beats. This is why its always good to go to the restroom before you get into the woods.

Justin and I hunted an old farmstead in 2004 way out in Grant county, Wisconsin.

That was a pretty creepy place fo sho.

The owners were a nice couple who owned a good 1000 acres of land WAY out in the boonies. It was just off the Mississippi.. hilly.. ravine filled country. Darkest woods I've still ever seen while hunting. It was just eerie all the time.. you could just tell that weird things happened out here.

Anyway.. the ole' farmstead (which still stood and we camped right next too) was like the childhood home of Ed Gein or something like that.. his grandparents house I think (can't really remember).. so that was wild. Ed Gein probably tortured chickens there or something..

But the even stranger part was knowing that there was a crop circle on this couples land.. that occured several years earlier but could still be seen then.

All I know is those were some of the most difficult walks into the woods I ever made. It was just a real eerie area.. something always seemed out of place to me there.

We never hunted it again after that 1 season. I missed a dandy there too[:@]

I have had the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up at times. It really depends on how early you get out in the woods. I was wondering, maybe another thread, but how many different sounds your mind can comprehend. I mean between the frogs, crickets, secatas (sp), owls, bobcats, yotes, and the 4 gazillion types of birds make up quite a concert.

I was most spooked whena Bart owl was in the tree beside me when he started his mating hoots. It was amazing, yet hard to believe that a sound like that comes from a bird!

bobcats are freaky in the dark - so is a beaver spanking his tail against water - both have sent chills up my spine

For some reason...when I'm going in to my stand in the morning I get a little uptight....I mostly worry about not finding my stand....

I remember I couldn't find my stand on opening day one year and I went into panic mode then I got ticked off and started making all kinds of noise...when I found my stand just as the sun was rising I was ringing wet with sweat....it ruined my morning....well...until about 8AM and then I double lunged a doe.

There is a hollow on the south side of my farm that every time I walk into it in the e dark the hair stands up. It is an area that some moonshiners used to use in the 30's. My gramp's used to tell all us grand kids the story about how the FBI caughtup with them one night and they had a shoot out there and two of the shiners got killed, now there ghosts forever haunt the hollow. There is truth to the shoot out my gramp's was about six when it happened, but as far as the ghosts, I don't know. Come walk in when its dark and then talk to me about it!! Deer huntin's good there so it keeps me comin' back!
