BINGO! That's the point of my original post. A speed bow is overlooked for it's KE potential. Most guys get a speed bow for the raw speed. Just another attribute is the ability to shoot a heavy arrow fast. My point exactly.

We shot a 500 gr arrow out of my 82nd at 300fps.

How's THAT for KE?

But why do people think the need ofthat much KE when 50 or 75% of thatwill do.

For me its because my 384 grain arrow at 328 f.p.s. gives me 93 ft-lbs of KE (enough to blow through ANY animal in North America) and it allows for a small pin gap which means that if I misjudge the yardage by a yard or two I am still going to put it in the boiler room!
Why do the fast bows havefairly light arrows why not 475-500 for more KE.

Probably for the same reason some people need a huge mansion to live in and they are never home????

Why do you shoot 64#'s when 40 will "do"?

Why does anyone need an arrow that is superlight to shoot with a bow that is so fast. That is my question, why that fast.

I have at my disposal to shoot
Airborne 82
Airborne 101
Guardian
General
Allegiance
Marquis
Honestly I like speed because of more than one reason but I won't sacrifice shootability or forgiveness to have speed. I have shot all these bows a considerable amount, and honestly I don't feel like I am giving anything up for the speed the 82 has to offer. It is very Quiet, Draw is very manageable, it stacks the arrows in a wad, and it flat out pumps some speed & KE. I'm getting over 69# of KE out of my 340 grain Maxima's at only 60# draw weight with a 28" draw. I also like the little extra A to A of the Airbornes. They just lock on target, very steady.

RE: Why does some people want a speed bow?
I don't see where this is going...
With my bow...
speed (328 f.p.s.) gives me a flatter trajectory, and more forgiveness on judging distance
KE (93 ft-lbs) gives me all the energy that I need to ensure a pass through
and I am not sacrificing anything with the bow..... how can that be bad?
I just ran some numbers, and I could shoot a 400 grain arrow at 327 f.p.s. for 95 ft-lbs of KE, or a 500 grain arrow at 306 f.p.s. for 104 ft-lbs of KE or a600 grain arrow out of my bow at 286 f.p.s. with 109 ft-lbs of KE....... or a 700 grain arrow at 265 f.p.s. for 110 ft-lbs of KE.
For me its about maximizing the performance to give me the best of speed, KE, and shootability. I have all 3 of those wrapped up and definetly more speed and KE than I "need", but it sure doesn't hurt either!
