i am comfortable shooting 60 yards when there is no wind. one tom last year was shot at 60, he ran 15 yards. i prefer to get him in to 5 yards for a show but sometimes i like to take a long shot. i practice shooting my bow 2-3 times a week on average all year so i havn't had a problem killing a turkey yet.
Wow, 60 yard shot on a turkey with a bow? Lots of factors come into play at that yardage. I'm confident to 60 with my bow, and often shoot out to 80, but I don't think I could ever take a shot at 60 yrds at a turkey. But whatever works for you.

With the recurve i like to keep it inside 20, with a compound i wouldnt go past 30 probably. Even though i am very efficent with my bow out to good rages, too many factors to take a shot at a live animal that far.

I like to keep shots to 30 and closer. Here in the wide open it can be challenging at times.

The kill zone of a turkey is fairly small. A 30 yard shot on a tom would be like a 60 yard plus shot on a deer. I took a 37 yard shot on a gobbler last spring, but I'm also going to stayinside 30 yards.

I've yet to bowhunt turkeys, but I do bowhunt, and know my abilities.....I hear a turkey has a softball size vital area......i feel if you can put it there at 40yds, why not shoot? to me it would depend on my shot opportunity.....if he's just sitting there at 40yds, I think Id take him, but bobbing/moving at 20yds....

Not too often a turkey will do that for you.

i know 60 yards ruffles a few feathers of people who believe in "ethical 30yrds and under". what i believe the ethics of the situation is practice and knowing when you can take that shot. i don't go out all the time looking for a long shot for some ego hype or to take a questionable shot. when i practice onan outside range i shoot from 40-70 yards. when i took last years shot i was watching the turkeys body language, he was standing erect and still, looking at some other turkeys, he didn't know what happened. plus my bow is turned up to 76 pounds, i don't have very much drop from 40-50 and 60 is almost the same drop.

I'll shoot a deer at 40 yards, but turkeys are a whole different story. They don't hold still worth a crap, and their eyesight is so good and they are naturally so jumpy anyway that I will not take shot passed 25 yards... 15 or 20 is even better.
