Default Dovetail sight users...

Do you always max out the possible length of your sight? Why or why not and please explain thought process of your method. Thanks

It really depends on what size peep I am using.

If it is a small peep then I have the sight bar out as far as it needs to be so I can center the sight ring in the peep.

If the peep has a large hole then the sight is slid in towards the riser till the sight ring centers in the peep.

I max out because I think I shoot better, it's mental thing, LOL

I have it in my head I am more accurate with it extened all the way out.

I agree with both..

Aussie that was my thinking as well..but even fully extended I may be just short of centering. I shoot a pretty small peep.

and Germ I agree the greater the distance of the 2 "reference" points has to make you more accurate?!!?

I max out the length of mine, reasoning is because I want the pins as far away from as possible so it makes them as small as possible. When picking out a spot, I want to be able to pick out the smallest spot possible. Aim small, miss small.

I have mine all the way out as well. You get a finer aiming point, clearer pins, and the sight housing lines up better w/ my peep. It has most definetly improved my shooting.

Out just far enough to center the pin guard in my peep. You can see here that there is room to go farther out. I shoot best with it here.

All the way out. I like the finer aiming points once you get 6 pins in a sight.

I get mine out far enough to center the housing in the peep. This gives me the shot to shot consistency I am looking for.
