RE: how long would you typically wait on a mount
ive waited for 2 and 1/2 years and on here ive saw guys who got there mounts back from this past season! so i think im kickin our taxidermist to the curb, he does good but we have over 10 deer in there that have been there forever and they just keep stacking up

Exactly - after i get this one back - I will go elsewhere, ---- I think the issue here is they get in elk, and moose so it equals big $$$

I've been down this road also and it sucks big time, heck I'm still going down that road with a bear of mine yet!!! I went to a different Taxi this year with my buck and I got it back in 4.5 months. I couldn't believe how quick it was done!! It turned out very nice also.

I don't think I'd use a taxidermist unless he could guarantee a turnaround in one year. I know there are some who take forever and they are very very good at what they do, but there are also those who get them done fast and those mounts look great as well. Yes there are some amazing taxidermists that do amazing work but I'm still not waiting over a year for my mount...there's more than one good taxidermist here in Illinois.
My taxidermist will generally get mounts done in 4-6 months depending on how busy he is. I admit I was skeptical at first but the mounts look great and more importantlystill do after many years. I've got a couple mounts that are 10 and 14 years old that look just as good as the one I had mounted in 2006.
What more could you ask for?

Seems like it varies a lot. Our local guy can't seem to get anything done in less than 2 years. He does top notch work but he's more interested in playing than working. Not going to fault him for that, but I'm also not going to give him my business. Had my bear rug back in about 6 months from the guy I use in Anchorage.

I will start looking around - but will do it in advance of the season so i know the hours of operation and rates, and also will ask typical turn time
