RE: how long would you typically wait on a mount
I like to have mine back with in a year! My guy here does AMAZING work and well worth the wait! I had all 4 of my African mounts back within a years time, and once again, amazing work!

Dropped 2 nice bucks off in nov. '06 and he just ordered the forms 2 weks ago, be another month or so. Worth the wait and I figure where they gonna go? They're dead already. Gives me more time to save, if I was going to.

RE: how long would you typically wait on a mount
depends on the area, the taxi, etc...
my area is LOADED with taxis. dime a dozen..honestly a couple in most every town.
the first guy i went to had a squirrel for dang near THREE YEARS and it looks like a turd!!! needless to say he wont get my business or anyone i know....
found my current taxi on a PA message board. i saw his webpage and his turkey heads looked AWESOME. i never saw a turkey head from a local taxi i would pay to have mounted...till i saw this guys work. he was an artist all his life. painting and attention to detail is him. he did a brown trout for me and i think there was 16 layers of paint or something pretty rediculous on it...but man did it look AWESOME. turn around was right around a year...
took my buck to him this year and talked to him on the message board the other day...form is in..he gotta tan the cape and mount it and said i will get it back real soon. honestly wasnt expecting it that quick, though he said he hoped late spring at the latest...i just didnt expect it. i know he works a full time day job...if it took him over a year or even close to 2 id be anxious and wanting it back, but i love his work and will wait...its worth it to me. a run of the mill taxi shop that doesnt do great work, i wouldnt be so patient with...id shop around and find a quicker cheaper one....
to me, if im having an animal mounted, it means something special to me and i want it to look great and want it to last forever. i will pay the price and will wait the wait. thats just how i see it....the normal person wont notice the differences in MY mount from my taxi opposed the their 250$ special from a guy that slaps a cape on a form and throws the rack on and calls it done...but anyone that knows good taxidermy knows what they are looking for. and, i like my taxidermist. i have to clear my schedule to goto his shop cause i know im going to be there a good 2+ hours. he shows me everything hes working on...talks to me about how he does stuff...talks to me about how normal run of the mill taxis do things and why hes different etc...but he doesnt have to..his work sells itself to me. a good painter is hard to come by around here..and someone that spend the time to iron out details for customer mounts is almost non-exsistant in the area...
shopping around for a taxi YOU like is what it all comes down to. prices you will pay, wait times you will wait, and work that YOU like....im lucky to have a pile to choose from...but it took me a BAD expirience to learn to shop around...

If I want a Euro mount, it's a pretty fast turn around for me.
My best friend does them, pretty cheap (for me) too
Lets just say I owe him for the rest of my life

8 months to a year would be about as long as I could take it!! depends on the taxi, if he is full time it should take about 6 to 8 unless he is not busy he can do it it about the time it takes to get thide tanned!!
