Most of the 3.5 buck around here are teeners. My guess is 10% .I have seen a few bucks over 5 that didn't break the 125".Thats sad.

At 3.5 there would have to be a major problem for a buck from here to not gross over 125". If I had to put a# to it I would say 95%. Like I said, they would have to have been injured or something. Most of our 2.5 year olds make P&Y net not even just gross.

I would say at least 75% if not more. A lot of guys like to refer to "good PA buck" like our herd has inferior genetics. Simply not true. We just have a screwed up age structure where very few make it to 3.5 years old and are visible in day light.

x2...if by 3.5 they are not P&Y, they need to be taken out.

X3- If they are 3.5 years old and they arent at least 125, that is considered a cull at our hunting club. Now we feed minerals and protein almost year round, so keep that in mind and we are on our 3rd year of management like this. Our ranch is in western Texas.

50% or so. It takes a great buck to hit 125".

This is interesting and I personally have become aware of the HUGE spread in size of 3.5 year olds where I am from, they can go anywhere from 180-115 here. The proportion going over 125 is not as high here as some might think, probably 70% +/- 10%. Last fall I found a huge bodied buck dead, that grossed 124. My brother shot one with a muzzleloader that went 122, and I have found two sets of sheds that went between 115-125 given reasonable spreads. All these were 3.5 or possibly older. On the other hand, I know of twice as many 3.5 year olds taken in the past year that went over 125.

I was thinking the same thing. MN has some pretty good genetics and feed. Are you in an area that doesn't provide very good nutrition?

Last I read MN was definitely in the top 10 states for B&C bucks, and it might have been in the top 5. It is surprising for sure. I guess bucks can just live longer there and aren't necessarily bigger at a younger age.
