As far as Buckmagnet's suggestion, there is nothing that even comes close to comparing to the hair bands of the 80s and 90s. I haven't heard a good band come out in many years now.

O, come on now Hardwoods, some Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Disturbed, Atreyu, Sevendust, ect.... they all rock. I gotta agree, nothing like the 80's and 90's rock, but if we didn't have some of the few new bands like the ones I mentioned above, all of our new music would be Justin Timberlake and T-Pain

That because we are talking about music you don't have to be high as a kite to enjoy.
All kiddin' aside, I like the Dead and all.... but really... Jerry Garcia.... the best guitarist of all time.... NO WAY! Top 15.... ok I'll give you top 15....
Best of all time, JUST in the ROCK genre (otherwise I'd have BB King in the 2-3 spot)... my opinion.... Jimi Hendricks, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray, Eddie Van Halen, Slash, (and I'll get flamed for sure but...) Kirk Hammet
