Man.. i wish i could say pass.. I been hunting for 8 years.. maybe 9. for years and years.. i would see does and does and does.. and for years i NEVER got a doe permit.. so i never shot one.. the years i got a doe permit.. yup.. u guessed it.. never saw a doe.. ahah so.. i FINALLY shot my first and second deer this past 07 season.. a button buck on opening day (thought it was a doe) and 2 days later.. a pretty big 4 pointer.. 16 inch spread inbetween.. looked like a mule my grandparents have back in greece! ahah anyways.. i hunted on public land.. all these years.. except for 07, so.. maybe that goes to show ya.. public freakkin SUXX.. every year.. including this last one. i kept saying.. if i dont shoot something.. im quitting this damn hunting.. here in NY, freazkin ma Nutts off for what? .. but finally .. that came to an end.. so.. now.. to answer the question, i would shoot whatever comes across, i want meat, and the thrill of the kill is what a LOVE. but im sure ill be like the pros here someday.. in 10 more years and then let things walk.. but.. untill i got atleast a dozen deer through my rifle/bow ill take anything. doe, small buck, monster.
PS. it is SOO true.. once you get that first kill, you become OBSESED, i was always obsessed, but now OBSESSED x100000. first thing i did, XMAS i got a BOW =] now i wanna get one that way.

I'd hold out for the next 20 years if I had to. I'm only shooting a buck if it's going on the wall. The years that doesn't happen I'll fill the freezer with does. I've shot enough smaller bucks in my time to satisfy a lifetime. It just wouldn't excite me anymore. Plus just having them cruise by at 15-20 yards and having know clue they are a dead deer walking is satisfying enough. At that point you have successfully (pretty much) hunted that animal.

NY:

I kinda share you feelings, but at my age I am not sure I have 20 years to wait. I have been lucky the last few years. However, I have determined the more I scout the luckier I get....

I hold out for the bigger ones. After seeing what I saw last year it should be a little easier to hold out.
