RE: smoke as a cover scent?
It works if smoke is common to the area. It doesn't work if your stinking up the clothes or gear at the same time by wearing them. I often hang clothes and gear in the same room as my wood boiler, never my scent lok gear. It comes out of the dryer hot and instantly in a seal bag. I never wear my clothes unless I'm hunting and remove all scent lok if I'm not, even to field dress. Smoke works in the multiple areas I hunt in. If I had no way to clean gear I'd hang them in smoke and wear them.
With the price of heating wood smoke will be every where again.

I try to stay as scent free as possible. But it may actually work on my farm, I live and hunt withing a mile of a very large charcoal company, so the scent of smoke is pretty common to the deer around here, especially on a foggy morning.

IMHO it is best to smell like nothing. While that may be impossible. I think we can diguise our scent a considerable amount. I use every means at my disposal to accomplish that.
